The collaboration between Digital Lighthouse and Scuderia Toro Rosso stands as one of the most enduring and significant projects in the history of our production house. What began over ten years ago has steadily evolved, keeping pace with the transformation of digital language and audiovisual production within the world of Formula 1.
The story begins in 2014, at a time when the use of CGI in motorsport was still in its infancy. That year, Digital Lighthouse created for Scuderia Toro Rosso and Red Bull Italia some of the earliest computer-generated productions ever applied to Formula 1, designed to bring immersive virtual experiences to life. These pioneering projects were conceived to showcase the technology and engineering behind single-seater cars through new visual languages—approaches capable of bringing audiences closer to the world of F1 in a truly innovative way.
In the years that followed, the collaboration strengthened and expanded. Digital Lighthouse gradually became the team’s primary creative and production partner for audiovisual content, contributing to the development of materials for the team’s official digital channels. Videos, formats, and special content accompanied each racing season, enhancing the team’s presence across digital platforms and helping shape an increasingly dynamic and engaging narrative of life on and off the track.
Digital Lighthouse & Scuderia Toro Rosso: over a decade of innovation in Formula 1
2019 marked a particularly significant milestone in this partnership. Working alongside Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Digital & Content team, Digital Lighthouse produced the first-ever launch clip of a Formula 1 car created entirely in CGI. For this project, the entire vehicle was digitally reconstructed from the team’s original designs, achieving an exceptionally high level of engineering accuracy. Surrounding the car, a dedicated virtual environment was also developed, featuring a wind tunnel—an iconic symbol of the aerodynamic research that defines Formula 1 car development.
Created for the global launch of the STR14, the clip was published across the team’s official channels and immediately gained widespread visibility and acclaim from the international Formula 1 community. It stands as a powerful example of how technology, creativity, and collaboration can converge to communicate innovation in a way that is both spectacular and accessible.
Over the years, the work carried out with Scuderia Toro Rosso has represented a true laboratory of continuous experimentation for Digital Lighthouse—where a passion for motorsport meets the pursuit of new visual languages. A partnership built on mutual trust and a shared ambition to push ever further the boundaries of digital storytelling in the world of Formula 1.
