Twenty Years of Formula 1 in the Docufilm about Scuderia AlphaTauri
“Whatever it Takes – the Race before the Races”, produced by Digital Lighthouse e Scuderia AlphaTauri, tells the story of the Formula 1 team from its beginnings in 2006 as Scuderia Toro Rosso, up to the creation of its single-seater for the 2022 F1 World Championship. Through interviews with drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda, as well as with key team figures – including long-time Team Principal Franz Tost – and with never-before-seen footage of technical processes, the Faenza factory, and the UK-based Bicester wind tunnel, the docufilm directed by Luca Curto reveals not only the evolution of a Formula 1 team that has become a benchmark for nurturing young talent, especially within the Red Bull universe, but also the complex preparation behind every F1 season and every race weekend.
The world premiere, held in Venice during the week of the 2023 Venice International Film Festival, turned the Lagoon into a runway for Formula 1, highlighting the connection between sport, Italian industry, and cinematic storytelling.
The Venice premiere was hosted by Federica Masolin, the hugely popular Sky Sport presenter. The 2022 car – the AT03 – together with official team driver Yuki Tsunoda, traveled on a special boat along Venice’s famous Grand Canal. It was moored right outside Palazzina Grassi, which hosted the event. After the screening of the film inside Teatrino Grassi, the car continued to “sail” along the canal to a new location – Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo – where it became the backdrop for a Fan Activation event. There, Yuki and Federica met a crowd of fans who had gathered for autographs and selfies.
The docufilm was later shown at other events, including one in Faenza, the team’s headquarters, and remained available on Sky’s platforms, where it received great success from both audiences and critics. It is currently available to everyone in 4K on YouTube.
